 Clara Wren - Week 8 - Nanotech + Art

I have never heard of what nanotech was.  This was a great opportunity for me to learn not only what nanotech is, but how it works in the world, and how it can become part of the art family.  The lectures taught me a lot on what nanotechnology is and how it is evolving in today’s society in regards to what it is doing.

Nanotech is not only a science, but it is starting to change the world in regards to becoming part of the social and economic values.  Nanotechnology refers to the dimensions of things and how they are measured within nanometers.  It is often used with atoms and molecules.

It was recently discovered that nature uses nanotechnology.  It is also a type of energy, like food, agriculture, electronics, and other parts of science.  Technology is a very broad field of nanotechnology.  Nano comes from the Greek root word “dwarf,” but in science, it is referred to as a billionth of a meter.  Nanotechnology uses the word “nano” for a lot of different things that have become useful in life.

A man named Richard Feynman was using the word before it even became a real word.  He was referring to nanotechnology, without knowing what it was and before the word even existed.  He used it as an example that we can move things on an atomic scale.

Artists and architects are able to work with scientists on getting the concept of what nanotechnology is and how they believe it works, and they can build and make artwork out of it.  That art becomes very famous and very useful because it provides a visual representation as to the science behind nanotechnology and what it really looks like.

  1. Hi Clara! It's fascinating to see how nature itself incorporates nanotechnology, which reinforces the idea that we can learn a lot from observing the world around us. You also listed its uses, and I think that really highlights nanotechnology's wide-ranging applications! Nanotechnology can often appear intimidating and complex, especially to those who are not well-versed in technical jargon or scientific principles. However, art has the incredible power to serve as a bridge, connecting the intricate world of science with the broader audience. Art can provide a medium through which scientific ideas can be visualized and communicated in a more accessible and relatable manner and I hope that invites more people to explore the unknown, instead of fearing it!
